This is a copy of the email sent on February 20th 2008. Since this email was sent the league has been created with two changes to the stats we track:
- Saves have been replaced with Net Saves (to take blown saves into account).
- Stolen Bases have been replaced with Net Stolen Bases (to take caught stealing into account).
EMAIL TEXT
Troggnation-
Just to verify/remind, I’ll go ahead and create the league with a draft date of 3/22, and a draft time of 7pm, unless anyone has a compelling reason to argue for otherwise.
STATS
Last season’s league was created with the following stats:
Batting:
R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB BB K FPCT AVG OBP SLG
Pitching:
IP W L CG SHO SV BB K GIDP HLD ERA WHIP K/9
There have been complaints about FPCT (and some other stats), so I figure I’d throw this out there: what stats do you want to see us follow this year? A couple constraints:
- There must be an equal number of pitching and hitting stats. This is rotisserie, so every stat counts equally, and to have one less stat for either pitching or hitting devalues the players that accumulate those stats.
- Unless you make an impassioned plea on the level of MLK Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, the “baseball card” stats are off limits. These include W, L, IP, CG, SHO, SV, K, ERA for pitchers and R, H, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, AVG for hitters.
To make it easier, I attached a txt file with all of the available stats to track in the Yahoo(!) league.
MONIES
The cost of the league is $124.99. The other option is to pay on a per-team basis, for the cost of $24.99. Now, it would only cost everyone $11.36 ($125/11 paying managers) if we just paid in a lump sum, and then figured it out amongst ourselves. I’m willing to buy the league and then deal with collecting the cash, like I did last year (though this year I’m actually going to track what cash has been collected, because I’m fairly certain I paid for like 3 other managers last season). I won’t expect payment until draft day (though sooner is always appreciated), and then I’ll take cash in person or PayPal via teh intarnets (my PayPal address is warrensmithtaylor[at]yahoo.com).
The folks that will actually be owing money this year are (in order of finish last year): J, me, Weston, Josh, Nick, Jason, Scott, Pat, Ryan, Chris, and Brian.
Again, the three that get scholarships (and much ridicule) are Corey, Eamon, and Major.
We had it last year that new players got in free, and that will remain the same unless anyone thinks we should charge them. It looks like we’re scheduled to have two new players this season.
LET’S GET TOGETHER YEAH YEAH YEAH
Also, I forgot to re-mention the possibility of a Saturday, April 5th trip to murderville…er…Oakland to see our beloved Cleveland Injuns and their completely non-racist team mascot take on the bag of moist fetuses that is the current Oakland Athletics team. Gametime is 1:05, so it’s kind of handy for those that would have to drive to/from Chico. I don’t think I’ll be organizing a mass ticket buying this time, since:
- it was a hassle, and
- I’m not even sure if I can make it, since Michelle’s birthday is the next day, and there may be some kind of family thing going on that Saturday.
If you’re interested, we usually just get bleacher seats, and there’s rarely a sellout at the concrete bowl that is the Colosseum.
